Intro to Robotics workshop
Launceston Flyer (14th May)
Running from 9am-3pm
(Target: Teachers new to Robotics from Year 4 to 12)
This course is designed for teachers who have minimal or no experience in Robotics
Using the new Lego NXT and accompanying software, participants will be able to tackle a series of basic challenges that can be used in the classroom. Successful classroom programs and tips for teaching Robotics will be discussed. Free entry to the "Robotics Competition" presentation from 3-5pm on the same day at the same venue is included.

Running from 3pm-5pm -
(Target: New and Experienced Teachers and/or Mentors from Year 4 to 12)
Robotics Competitions is a 2 hour presentation covering the two biggest Robotics Competitions in Tasmania and the World:
RoboCup Junior (Soccer, Dance and Rescue) and
FIRST LEGO League.
It will include a general overview, discussion of rules and information specific to Tasmania plus lots more (found in the flyers above)

(Target: Teachers from Year 1 to 12)
This is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to participant in an informative, hands-on and teacher specific workshop on PowerPoint. Whilst the focus of the day will be on How to use PowerPoint, a significant component of the workshop will be how to best utilize PowerPoint in the classroom. Access to many resources on the web will be presented, as will some extra features such as assessing students PowerPoints, best practice use of data projectors.
(Target: Teachers from Year 1 to 12)
Moodle is a free (open source) online learning environment. It allows schools to put course content online, add activities such as assignments, quizes and forums, and track student progress using a gradebook. In this workshop participants will learn how to create courses, add resources such as labels, web pages and files, and add activities including quizzes, assignments and forums.
Introduction to Joomla
Now offered as an online course by LearnICT (www.learnict.com.au) in August
(Target: IT Teachers from Year 1 to 12 and people responsible for the school's website)
Joomla is a free (open source) Website Content Management System, allowing easy management of all website content - text, documents, pictures and other media. Knowledge of languages and programs like HTML and Dreamweaver is not required. This workshop is aimed at those staff responsible for a school's website, and shows them how to create and maintaing a website using Joomla. Participants will learn how to create content, link articles to menus, change the look of the site using templates, manage their site's users and much more.

NeXT step Robotics
(Target: Teachers from Year 4 to 12)
This course is designed for people who have some experience of Robotics at their school. The aim will be to extend their knowledge base, whilst introducing the Lego NXT platform and 3 methods of programming: Robolab 2.9, NXT software and by dabbling in Robot C.
Throughout the day participants will tackle some hands on challenges that can be used in the classroom. They will also be presented with the latest information on, and changes to, the Robocup Junior competition and find out what First Lego League is all about .
Lego Robotics in the Science Classroom
(Target: Teachers from Year 7 to 12)
This course would demonstrate the extensive possibilities for Lego robotics kits within the Science classroom. Based on the NXT platforms, teachers will be presented with a series of hands on activities that harness the datalogging properties, gearing, energy transformations plus lots more. Activities are designed to compliment existing science curricula, yet add real excitement and discovery learning to lessons
